Quick Guide

If this is the first time you are using DJEEO Education, the following steps are a guide to what the process of setting up a game involves. Before a game can be played it has to be prepared, created and readied. A game consists of 4 sections: The subject packs (tasks), the course you play in, the teams who will be playing and GPS equipment you will be using. Below you can see how a game is configured.

Configuring a game

Start by logging into Gamemaster, http://gamemaster.djeeo.net using your username and password provided in the welcome letter or by your local DJEEO administrator (read more). Once logged in you will see the start page which displays the main menu (see Figure 3.22). All navigation within Gamemaster will begin from this start page and its main menu.

Preparation

As can be seen in figure 3.22, there are 4 sections that need to be completed in order to create the game.

  1. Subject packs (Choose or create the subject-specific content. See how!)
  2. Courses (Set up the routes to be used in the game. See how!)
  3. Teams (Set up the playing teams. See how!)
  4. GPS equipment (See which DJEEO Playboxes and GPS devices are available to you. Read more)

When the 4 sections above have been completed you can create the game. By clicking Create new game a wizard will start which will guide you through the process. The wizard contains the 5 following steps:

  2. Game setup (Select the 4 sections you've just prepared. Read more)
  3. Print game (Print out/save the 3 necessary documents: Gamemaster instructions, Team instructions, Assignment Booklet. Read more)
  4. Send email (An email can be sent to the pupils informing them about the game if the teams have been made with email addresses (not obligatory). Read more)
  5. Summary (The wizard closes. Read more)

Ready

After a game has been in configured it will show in the list below the main menu. It has to be readied before you can use it. Until it is readied you can correct configuration. Click Ready and the game will be transferred to Game and is ready to use. Don't forget to print the Gamemaster instructions, the Team instruction and the Assignment booklet before the game is readied!

The day of the game

In DJEEO - On the day you will find relevant information on how to prepare a game. You will find the document in the Playbox or here.

Good advice

If this is the first time you are using DJEEO Education, the following steps are a guide to what the process of setting up a game usually involves.

  1. Which set of pupils are playing when and what is the purpose of the game?
  2. Depending on the purpose, is it preferable to download a subject pack from the Library or to create one yourself?
  3. Reserve PC's with internet access – 2 for the teacher and 1 per team playing. Also reserve a projector.
  4. Inform the pupils about the game and what is needed on the day (kit – shoes, appropriate clothing etc.).
  5. GPS devices and mobiles need to be charged the night before the game is played. A minimum of 4-5 hours charge time is required for the GPS.
  6. Check out the Game site before you play at http://game.djeeo.net. Use the login provided in the Gamemaster instructions. You can't start the game until the teams are readied.
  7. If you forgot to print the Gamemaster instructions, the Team instruction and the Assignment booklet before the game was readied you can always create a new game. It takes no time once the preparations have been made.
